Event date:
Sat, 08/29/2026 - 8:00am

The lead RC will be Will Fetner and the rear RC will be Dean Gordon (Pavegord).  Kick stands up will be at 8:00 am from Thunderbird HD.  The ride briefing will start promptly at 7:45 am (after the RC briefing).  The destination is the Pecos Windy Bridge Picnic Area, approximately 110 miles from TBHD.  The plan is for members to either brown bag their lunch and use the picnic facilities OR to seek a restaurant in the Village of Pecos at their leisure.

Proposed Route:

From TBHD, Alameda east to I-25 frontage road
Frontage road north to Tramway
Tramway east and south to Old US-66/NM-333
Old US-66 east to NM-14
NM-14 north to CR-42/Camino los Abuelos (shortly after Los Cerrillos)
CR-42 east to Galisteo and NM-41
NM-41 north to US-285
US-285 north to I-25
I-25 north to NM-50
NM-50 east to Village of Pecos and NM-63
NM-63 north to the Windy Bridge Picnic Area

There is going to be one pit stop on the way to our destination: the Phillips 66 located off NM-50 just before downtown Pecos (it is also the Eagle Nest market if you need supplies).

Anticipate arriving at the picnic area around 11:00 am.  Kick-stands-down will be the picnic area.  If you do not want to brown bag and want to travel back to Pecos for lunch (Pecos is approximately 10 miles from the picnic area), the following restaurants are at your disposal:

Frankie’s at the Casanova Restaurant - 12 S. Main St., Pecos; ph. #505-757-3322 (link: frankiesnm.com)
Pancho’s Gourmet to Go – 9 S. Main St., Pecos; ph. #505-757-2620 (link: Pancho's Gourmet To Go in Pecos, New Mexico; Gas, Burgers, Burritos, Carne Adovada)
Dairy Queen grill and Chill – 137 NM-50, Pecos; ph. #505-757-2196 (link: DQ Food and Treat in Pecos, NM, 137 NM Highway 50 | DairyQueen.com)

The ride back is on your own.  If fuel is needed for the return trip, the Phillips 66 mentioned above is available as well as a Shell gas station in downtown Pecos.

For those club members doing the county challenge, this ride will go through Bernalillo, Santa Fe, and San Miguel counties.

A brief description of the Village of Pecos (per Wikipedia as of 2/11/2026):

Pecos is a village in San Miguel County, New Mexico. The population was 1,392 at the 2010 census, shrinking slower than other parts of San Miguel County, partly because Pecos is within commuting distance of Santa Fe. The village is built along the Pecos River, which flows from the north out of the Santa Fe National Forest. Notable locations nearby include Pecos National Historical Park, Glorieta Pass, and Pecos Benedictine Monastery. It is also an entry point for hunting, fishing, hiking and camping in the Pecos Wilderness. The closest metropolitan area is the Santa Fe metropolitan area, approximately 26 miles (42 km) to the west.
